
The British government has ordered Apple to grant secret access to its customers’ encrypted cloud storage data using controversial surveillance powers known as the “Snoopers’ Charter”, in a move that could weaken security for iPhone users all over the world.
Last month the US tech group received a “technical capability notice” under the UK Investigatory Powers Act, requiring the iPhone maker to create a “back door” to its encrypted iCloud storage service, according to people familiar with the matter.
