The EU was preparing emergency measures to curb soaring electricity prices, the European Commission president said on Monday, as the cost of energy broke new records across the continent.
While EU officials work to alleviate the pressure on households and businesses this autumn, Ursula von der Leyen said skyrocketing electricity prices were “exposing the limitations of our current electricity market design”.
In a speech in Slovenia, von der Leyen said the commission was working on “emergency intervention” as well as structural reforms to the electricity market.
