Joe Biden was formally nominated as the Democratic nominee for US president on Tuesday night, as party stalwarts lined up to attack Donald Trump for his handling of coronavirus.
Mr Biden accepted the nomination after reaching the threshold of 1,991 votes following a virtual roll call that consisted of a series of video clips of delegates from states across the country.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” a beaming Mr Biden said from a school library in Delaware, where his wife Jill spoke later in the evening. He will formally accept the party’s nomination in a speech on Thursday.
