Workers asked to self-isolate because of coronavirus will be entitled to statutory sick pay from their first day off work, Boris Johnson has announced.
The UK prime minister said those who are “helping to protect all of us by slowing the spread of the virus” should not have to wait until their fourth day off to receive the pay, or be penalised “for doing the right thing”.
Downing Street also confirmed on Wednesday that “discussions are taking place” over the possibility of shutting Parliament in an attempt to contain the disease.
