The Nasdaq and Dow hit fresh all-time highs on Tuesday while China’s currency strengthened past a key threshold amid signs the trade war between the world’s two largest economies is easing.
The S&P 500 continued to fluctuate between modest losses and gains and was trading 0.02 per cent lower at pixel time, hovering close to a record high. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite rose as much as 0.3 per cent to 8,457.39 and the Dow climbed as much as 0.4 per cent to a fresh intraday high of 27,560.36. Wall Street’s three main equities gauges had closed at record highs on Monday.
The moves on Wall Street came as the FT reported overnight that US officials are debating whether to remove some tariffs on Chinese goods as a concession to seal a partial deal as early as this month.
