Cathay Pacific’s chairman John Slosar resigned on Wednesday as he became the latest casualty at the Hong Kong flag carrier after Beijing’s crackdown following anti-government protests in the territory.
The resignation comes less than three weeks after the airline replaced its chief executive Rupert Hogg following an accusation from Beijing’s aviation regulator that the company was putting flight safety at risk after several of the group’s employees allegedly participated in the protest movement.
The announcement also came on the same day that Hong Kong’s chief executive Carrie Lam formally withdrew a controversial extradition bill that sparked the worst political crisis in Hong Kong since the territory was handed back from the UK to China more than 20 years ago.
