After having her hair and make up done by a colleague and changing into a low-cut dress provided by her employer, Renzel Dela Cruz, a 22-year-old Filipina mother of one, begins her eight-hour shift at an online casino.
“Hi players, I am Venus,” she says, smiling and waving to a camera before dealing cards for a game of Baccarat that will be played by gamblers in China. “I will be your next dealer.”
In an interview away from her workplace, which is off limits to journalists, Ms Dela Cruz describes her work for a Chinese- and Thai-owned offshore gambling company in Makati, an upscale business district outside Manila.
