The head of the UK’s civil service has launched an official investigation into the unprecedented leak of senior ministers’ discussions about whether to allow Huawei to build the country’s 5G networks.
In a stern letter to members of the UK’s National Security Council on Wednesday, Mark Sedwill requested co-operation from ministers, civil service officials and special advisers with access to details of the deliberations about the Chinese telecoms group.
The NSC — which is chaired by Theresa May and brings together cabinet ministers and senior officials involved in foreign and defence policy — agreed on Tuesday that Huawei could build some parts of Britain’s 5G networks.
