President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un abruptly cut short their Hanoi summit, cancelling a signing ceremony after the two leaders failed to reach a deal over denuclearisation.
The White House said Mr Trump and Mr Kim had held “very good and constructive meetings” but that the leaders had not reached a deal. “No agreement was reached at this time but their respective teams look forward to meeting in the future,” said Sarah Sanders, White House press secretary.
Mr Trump left the Metropole hotel following several hours of meetings with Mr Kim that ended without a planned lunch and a public ceremony. The White House had earlier brought forward a press conference by Mr Trump by two hours, in a sign that the summit had not gone as well as the US had expected.
