Amy Klobuchar, the moderate Minnesota senator, was expected on Sunday to become the ninth Democrat to join what is shaping up as the biggest field of presidential primary contenders in history.
The entry of the mid-western politician comes a day after Elizabeth Warren, 69, the progressive Massachusetts senator, formally launched her White House campaign, and highlights the battle between progressive and centrists that will be one of the main Democratic faultlines in the 2020 race.
“This is the fight of our lives. The fight to build an America where dreams are possible, an America that works for everyone,” Mrs Warren said in launching her campaign.
