Theresa May last night survived an attempted coup by Eurosceptic Conservative MPs, but she will travel to Brussels today to try to save her Brexit deal with her authority shaken and leaving behind a bitterly divided party.
Mrs May won a vote of confidence by 200 to 117 votes after a day of high drama at Westminster, after warning her warring MPs that a change of prime minister would “put our country’s future at risk”.
The vote was called yesterday morning when it was confirmed that at least 48 MPs, or 15 per cent of the total, had written letters calling for the removal of Mrs May over her handling of Brexit.
