Further declines for Wall Street extended a global stock market sell-off in a volatile session that saw US equities struggle to benefit from an afternoon rally in Treasuries.
US stocks on October 10 chalked up some of their biggest one-day drops of the past five years, triggering a wave of selling that rippled through Asian and European markets, as well as commodities — and back to Wall Street — on Thursday.
The declines pushed the main equities gauges through key momentum levels regarded by traders as important for support, and had the Nasdaq Composite touch, and small-cap-focused Russell 2000 fall into, correction territory.
