Donald Trump hit out at domestic critics of his trade wars on Wednesday as he prepared to meet with the EU’s Jean-Claude Juncker for discussions that European officials hope will help to defuse rising transatlantic trade tensions.
Dubbing his trade critics “weak politicians”, Mr Trump on Wednesday called for Americans to line up behind him as he sought to overturn what he has portrayed as years of destructive trade imbalances.
“When you have people snipping at your heels during a negotiation, it will only take longer to make a deal, and the deal will never be as good as it could have been with unity,” he wrote on Twitter. “Negotiations are going really well, be cool. The end result will be worth it!”
