Donald Trump landed in Helsinki on Sunday night facing criticism at home for failing to condemn alleged Russian hacking of his rival in the 2016 election ahead of his Monday summit with President Vladimir Putin.
Mr Trump’s first full summit with Mr Putin comes at the end of a turbulent week of shoot-from-the-hip diplomacy in Europe, where he berated Nato military allies and openly criticised Britain’s prime minister, raising concern in Washington of how he will treat the Russian leader.
In comments broadcast on Sunday, Mr Trump also described the US’s longstanding allies in the EU as a “foe”.
