French president Emmanuel Macron has pledged to work with the US to improve the Iran nuclear deal, hours after Donald Trump issued a tough warning against Tehran restarting its programme even if the US pulled out of the existing accord.
While Europeans including Mr Macron would not reopen the existing deal, he said they wanted to work on a separate “new deal” that ensured Tehran did not engage in nuclear activity now or after 2025. This also included Iran ending its ballistic missile activities and containing its interference in the Middle East.
“I’m very happy about the discussion we had together,” Mr Macron said at a joint press conference, adding the pair had floated “new” solutions during bilateral talks.
