Donald Trump has tempered his enthusiasm for North Korea’s pledges to close a nuclear site and halt missile testing, reinjecting a note of caution yesterday over prospects for any eventual deal between the two countries.
The US president had initially hailed Pyongyang’s announcement as “big progress” in his effort to ensure the regime abandons its nuclear programme before talks between the North and South Korean leaders this week and his own possible summit with North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, which could take place in June.
“We are a long way from conclusion on North Korea, maybe things will work out, and maybe they won’t — only time will tell,” Mr Trump said in a tweet.
