A former top Chinese official once tipped as a potential successor to Xi Jinping has been charged with corruption, state media reported on Tuesday.
Sun Zhengcai, previously the top party official in Chongqing, south-west China, was put under investigation for graft by Beijing in July.
The charges announced by the Supreme People's court on Tuesday relate to illegally accepting large sums of money as bribes, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
