A surprise visit by US President Donald Trump to the demilitarized zone between South and North Korea was cancelled on Wednesday morning due to bad weather, according to official media, leaving South Korean President Moon Jae-in waiting in vain at the border.
South Korea’s Yonhap news agency cited an official from South Korea’s presidential office as saying Mr Moon had already arrived and been waiting for Mr Trump at the joint security area inside the DMZ.
A senior Trump administration official had previously asserted Mr Trump would not visit the heavily fortified border zone, saying the practice was “becoming a little bit of a cliche, frankly.”
