While the Trump administration is still trying to tackle Chinese over-capacity in traditional industries like steel, US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has warned of the threat from China of future over-capacity in fast-growing sectors like robotics and electric cars.
Mr Ross has previously warned that Beijing’s industrial upgrading plan – called “Made in China 2025” – is an “attack” on “American genius”.
Speaking to reporters in Hong Kong on Wednesday, after talks with top Chinese officials including Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing, he singled out China’s drive for industrial automation as an emerging threat to the US economy.
