Facebook has completed the first full-scale test flight of its Aquila drone, designed to beam the internet to remote corners of the world.
The world’s largest social network announced on Thursday that it had flown the solar-powered drone for more than 90 minutes in a test over Arizona, calling it a “big milestone” for its connectivity plans.
Jay Parikh, Facebook’s global head of engineering and infrastructure, said that the company’s Connectivity Lab was working on projects from drones to satellites to enable billions of people to get online quicker.
