英國退歐公投

Britons vote in historic EU referendum

Britons braved stormy weather in London and England’s populous south-east to vote in the UK’s historic EU referendum, with both the Leave and Remain campaigns reporting heavy turnout across the country.

After a choppy session, London markets closed mostly higher, with sterling — which has served as a proxy for trader sentiment on the referendum — closing up 0.8 per cent at $1.4823. Against the euro, the pound strengthene 0.2 per cent to 76.59p.

Sterling hit a new 2016 high against the dollar during the day, having charged up 1.6 per cent to $1.4947, before relinquishing some of that advance in the late afternoon.
