Victory for Beijing!
China's Shanghai Composite fell 4.3 per cent today but the crucial 3,500 level, widely seen as a floor that triggers support from the authorities, was defended in the final minutes of trading.
The session low for the benchmark average was 3,490, just five minutes before the closing bell. But then the entirely predictable happened: last minute buying pushed the index up 0.5 per cent, placing the index at a closing level of 3,507.
