An airliner that disappeared on Sunday with 54 people on board crashed on a mountain in eastern Indonesia, according to the country’s transport officials.
There were no reports of survivors. The accident was the latest in a string of incidents that have raised concerns over air safety in the country.
Reuters news agency quoted Suprasetyo, Indonesia’s air transportation director-general, as saying the missing Trigana Air carrier had been located by villagers in the Oktabe district, about 175 miles south of Jayapura, the capital of Papua province, from where the plane had taken off.
