Jihadi John, the masked figure responsible for some of the most barbaric murders by Isis has been independently named by two reputable news organisations as Mohammed Emwazi from west London.
The naming of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant killer, who featured in online footage purportedly showing the beheading of at least eight people, is likely to reignite calls for his capture and stepped-up efforts to fight the brutal insurgency in Iraq and Syria.
His victims are believed to include American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, aid workers David Haines, Alan Henning and Peter Kassig, an unnamed Syrian soldier and Japanese citizens Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa.
