Indonesian search and rescue teams looking for the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 have pulled wreckage and several bodies from the sea off the Borneo coast.
Earlier on Tuesday officials had said the Indonesian military had spotted several objects floating in the sea near the last point of contact with the AirAsia aircraft.AirAsia confirmed the debris was from QZ8501 and said it was found in the Karimata Strait, about 110 nautical miles south west from Pangkalan Bun.
Six bodies had also been found in the sea by search and rescue teams lowered from helicopters and warships, with three — two women and a man — retrieved by Tuesday night, a navy spokesman said. Strong winds and high waves led to the suspension of the air rescue operation, but naval warships continued to work through the night. A team of divers was being sent to aid in the search.
