The head of Indonesia’s search efforts to find the AirAsia flight that went missing early on Sunday said the aircraft was likely to be “at the bottom of the sea”.
Authorities from Indonesia and neighbouring southeast Asian countries on Monday morning resumed searching the Java Sea for flight QZ8501, which dropped off radar screens in stormy weather en route to Singapore.
“Based on the co-ordinates given to us and evaluation that the estimated crash position is in the sea, the hypothesis is the aircraft is at the bottom of the sea,” said FH Bambang Soelistyo, Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency chief.
