China has reversed its plans to hold a secret trial of a British private investigator and his American wife who were arrested in connection with work they did for GlaxoSmithKline, the UK drugmaker accused of bribery in China.
The move follows pressure from the US and UK, both of which expressed concerns about lack of transparency in the proceedings.
US consular officials had previously been informed that they would not be allowed to attend the trial of Peter Humphrey and Yurcu Yingzeng, who are expected as soon as next month to face charges of illegally phasing the personal information of Chinese nationals.
