Amazon muscled into the smartphone market on Wednesday, launching a handset called Fire and betting that the ecommerce group’s vast library of digital content would help it take on big-gun rivals Apple and Samsung.
The launch of the smartphone ends years of speculation on when or even if Amazon would enter a hugely competitive and increasingly saturated market.
Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos unveiled a series of innovations around hardware, software and services to distinguish Fire from its rivals, and which the company plans to use to tap into its millions of customers and wide digital content.
