Karel De Gucht, the EU’s senior trade official, has attacked China’s subsidisation of its mobile telecommunications equipment sector even as he announced that Brussels would not pursue an investigation into the alleged unfair pricing of those products in Europe.
The EU trade commissioner announced yesterday that Brussels would not proceed with a long-mooted anti-dumping investigation into Chinese mobile equipment companies such as Huawei and ZTE.
The move followed the settling last week of disputes with China over polysilicon and wine and is part of a broader effort to ease trade tensions ahead of a visit to Brussels on Monday by Xi Jinping, the Chinese president.
