Hassan Rohani, Iran’s president-elect, yesterday pledged to give the world greater transparency into the Islamic republic’s controversial nuclear programme and said he would work to win back the trust of world powers and ease international sanctions.
In his first press conference since his surprise election at the weekend, the centrist cleric insisted that Iran’s uranium enrichment activities would not be suspended. But he also called for intensified talks with world powers.
“Our nuclear programme is totally transparent, but we are ready to show more transparency,” Mr Rohani said.
