In June, a 1929 Bentley set a new record when it fetched £5m at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Three months ago, a Ferrari 250 GTO, one of the most sought-after vehicles in the world, set another record when it sold for close to $40m.
The market in classic cars – such as a 1954 F1 Mercedes-Benz soon to be auctioned by Bonhams – has outshone all other types of collectable asset, too.
