The UN Security Council tightened sanctions on North Korea on Tuesday in response to its satellite launch last December, following an agreement between the US and China on new measures to punish the Pyongyang regime.
The new UN resolution, which was unanimously approved, imposes asset freezes and travel bans on six companies and four individuals and promises further “significant action” if North Korea attempts another launch or a nuclear test.
North Korea immediately responded to the UN vote by saying that it would step up its nuclear weapons programme.
