Karen Millen, the privately owned fashion retailer, will today make its debut in China, with the opening of its first store in Beijing.
The new outlet is part of a plan to open 60 stores in China over the next five years. After the wholly owned store in Beijing, a second flagship is due to be opened in the spring, as well as a local language transactional website.
The retailer, owned by privately held Aurora Fashions, already trades in 50 countries through a combination of physical outlets and electronic commerce. Gemma Metheringham, managing director, said Karen Millen had been trading particularly strongly in Hong Kong over the past two years, “so we believe that the customer is there for us in China”.
