The global economic outlook is more uncertain than at the start of the crisis in late 2008, according to Caterpillar, the world’s biggest maker of earthmoving equipment by revenues and a bellwether of the industrial economy.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Doug Oberhelman, chief executive, also predicted it could take another five years before Europe’s economy begins to grow again in earnest.
Mr Oberhelman said it was harder to predict what would happen to the global economy over the coming year than at any time in his 37-year career at Caterpillar.
