China growth: bottoming out?

Was that it? While China’s Q1 growth figure came in below expectations, and marked a continued slowdown, the 8.1 per cent headline number has already been greeted with relief by some China watchers.

Many even think China’s gradual slowdown is now done. Is it?

Forecasts had been for an 8.3-8.4 per cent quarterly growth figure, down from the last quarter of 2011, when GDP registered 8.9 per cent growth. That might suggest that Friday’s data was grim reading.
