Luxury camps weather US economic storms

Luxury summer camps are thriving this year in a further illustration that the wealthy in the US have largely escaped the worst of the recession.

The popularity of top-range summer camps is illustrated by a growth in consultancy businesses that primarily deal with luxury-end sleep-away facilities.

Tips on Trips and Camps, a consultancy, works with 300 camps with an average price range of $1,000-$1,500 a week. “Families spending $10,000 on camp aren’t scraping and saving compared with families who spend $200,” says Carey Rivers, co-founder of the consultancy.
