Americans went to the polls on Tuesday for Congressional elections that are expected to hand control of the House of Representatives to the Republican party and significantly diminish the Democratic majority in the Senate, an outcome that will be seen as a repudiation of the Obama administration's first two years in office.
As polling booths opened across the country on Tuesday morning, pundits were looking to turn-out for clues of whether the expected Republican “wave” will amount to a tsunami or more of a gentle lapping.
“It's not a question of if, but how much,” said David Hoppe, a former senior Republican aide in the Senate.
