Prudential on Wednesday said it had delayed its $20.7bn (£13.7bn) rights issue because of ongoing regulatory discussions about its planned $35.5bn purchase of AIA.
The UK-based financial services group was on Wednesday supposed to publish the detailed terms of the rights issue that would fund the acquisition of AIA, the Asian arm of AIG, the US insurer.
In a highly embarrassing change of plan, however, it instead announced that it was delaying the pricing and launch of the issue, saying that it was still in talks with the Financial Services Authority, the UK regulator, about the deal.
