General Motors is closing in on a deal to sell assets from its Saab unit to Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co while continuing separate talks with other potential bidders over the remainder of the Swedish carmaker.
BAIC has struck a tentative agreement with GM to buy production equipment and intellectual property related to two older Saab models, according to people familiar with negotiations.
The deal would mark a step forward in efforts by the Chinese carmaker to strengthen its technology and design capabilities while also advancing GM's attempts to offload Saab.
