Shares in Taipei closed at their highest levels since last September amid growing optimism over ties with the mainland.
The weighted index rose 5.6 per cent to 6,333.40, taking its rise over the last two sessions to nearly 13 per cent. The advance left the benchmark up 38 per cent from the start of the year.
Financials rose as the market responded to the Taiwan regulator's announcement that it would allow China institutions to invest in its money markets and convertible bonds.
