Chinese equity markets rose this week as investors demonstrated rare confidence in a central government's plans to restore calm.
The Shanghai stock market rose on Thursday after Chinese premier Wen Jiabao promised to achieve the oft-stated target of GDP growth of 8 per cent this year.
The 8 per cent target has been much debated, with some analysts suggesting it was unlikely to be met.
