Volodymyr Zelensky urged Europe to never again hesitate to curb Vladimir Putin’s aggression as Ukraine’s military warned Russia was regrouping for a renewed offensive on its capital Kyiv.
In a late night address to an EU summit, the Ukrainian president thanked Europe’s leaders for adopting “powerful” sanctions against Moscow but urged them to go further and break the pattern of being “a little too late”.
With the invasion in its fifth week, the EU remains torn over whether to adopt additional curbs on Russian energy, tightening what are already the most far reaching international sanctions ever applied on a major world economy. EU leaders will return to a Brussels summit for a second day on Friday.
