Eleven people were killed and several others injured when a car was driven into a large crowd in Vancouver, police said, on the weekend before Canada’s federal election.
Police posted on X that the “tragic incident” took place as people celebrated Lapu Lapu Day, a Filipino festival, at a neighbourhood street party. A 30-year-old Vancouver man was arrested.
Vancouver police later told reporters that the incident was not related to terrorism and that the suspect had a history of mental illness.
