US President Donald Trump said he would hold Iran responsible for “every shot” fired by Houthi rebels and that the Islamic republic would face “dire” consequences for any attacks by the Yemeni militants.
Trump’s warning came after the Iranian-backed Houthis claimed on Monday to have launched two missile and drone attacks against the USS Harry S Truman, an aircraft carrier, in 24 hours. Lt. Gen. Alex Grynkewich, the US joint staff director for operations, said on Monday that the strikes “missed by over 100 miles”.
The Houthi attack was in retaliation for a wave of American air strikes in recent days targeting the rebels in the most significant military operation of Trump’s second term.
