Biden and Starmer to meet in Washington as Putin warns of risk of war with Nato

US President Joe Biden will hold talks with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on Friday about whether to allow Ukraine to use western-made weapons for strikes deep inside Russia, after Vladimir Putin warned such a move could unleash a war with Nato nations.

Some European officials said they believed Biden would approve Ukraine using UK-French made Storm Shadow cruise missiles for attacks far inside Russian territory.

But the Biden administration has been split over allowing Ukraine to use the US-made Army Tactical Missile System for the same purpose, with the state department open to Kyiv’s request, while the Pentagon and the intelligence agencies are sceptical.
