Donald Trump has lashed out at General Mark Milley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, after several new books recounted how the top-ranking US military official worried the former president would try to stage a coup during his final days in the White House.
The Washington Post reported on Thursday that Milley feared a “Reichstag moment” and compared Trump to Adolf Hitler as Trump refused to acknowledge the results of November’s presidential election, according to the book I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J Trump’s Catastrophic Last Year, written by two of the newspaper’s reporters.
“This is a Reichstag moment,” Milley reportedly told aides, adding: “The gospel of the Führer,” according to the book, which claimed that top brass worried the outgoing president would try to stage a coup to prevent Joe Biden from taking office.
