New York legislators will open an impeachment investigation into state governor Andrew Cuomo after six women came forward to accuse him of sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviour.
The decision was taken on Thursday evening by Carl Heastie, the speaker of the Democratic-controlled assembly, after meeting with fellow members — more than 50 of whom signed a letter calling for the governor’s removal.
“The reports of accusations concerning the governor are serious,” Heastie said.
