The US will deploy new forces to Saudi Arabia as it looks to deter Iranian aggression in the Middle East, US defence secretary Mark Esper said on Friday.
Two fighter squadrons, two Patriot surface-to-air missile systems and an anti-ballistic missile defence system will all be deployed along with extra troops, Mr Esper said.
The US has now deployed approximately 3,000 extra US troops to the Middle East in the last month, and 14,000 extra troops since May, according to Pentagon figures. The announcement follows the additional 200 troops, a surface-to-air missile system and extra radar equipment deployed to the kingdom at the end of September.
