Donald Trump and his Republican allies moved to exact reprisals against those who backed Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign, saying they would push for an inquiry into its operations.
Mr Trump said Mr Mueller himself had been “honourable” in his running of the investigation, which found that Mr Trump had not colluded with Moscow during the race. But he said that “we can never let this happen to another president again” and signalled that some who testified against him should themselves be investigated.
“Hopefully . . . people who have done such harm to our country . . . those people will certainly be looked at,” he said in the Oval Office on Monday.
