The head of Starbucks’ overseas businesses has said the coffee shop chain retains a “firm belief” in China despite data this week that showed its economy was growing at its slowest pace in almost three decades.
John Culver, who runs Starbucks’ operations in 58 markets outside the US, including China, told the Financial Times that the company stood by its plans to open nearly 600 coffee shops in the country over the next year.
“Even with the [latest GDP] numbers, it’s one of the fastest growing economies in the world,” he said.
